Yesterday, my big girl turned five years old. That just doesn't seem possible. I keep thinking she just turned four! Craziness...
I get super excited for birthdays and want to do all that I can to make them special for my family. Keira had asked for a bike. Travis and I took her to a bike store last weekend just to have her try out the small bikes. She is so tiny that even the 16 inch bike is big on her. My mom had said she wanted to get the bike for her for her b-day so she ended up just getting a 12 inch one that you can put together from Target. It will be a good one for her to practice on until she gets more comfortable and can get a "real" bike...meaning one we will actually spend some $$ on.
Travis had the bike put together and we put it in the living room on the morning of her birthday. I heard her waking up and got ready with the camera. She stopped and stared when she got to the end of the hall and then just started smiling. I made sure she knew the bike was from Gramma and daddy had put it together. She "tried it out" a bit on the carpet - lol. It has been rainy, so not the best time to try out a new bike, so inside will have to do.
I made her the breakfast she always requests, which is pancakes and we got her ready for school. She wanted to wear the dress Santa brought her for Christmas. Mia and I took her to school then I ran some errands. Travis didn't have to go to school in the morning which was super nice to be able to see him for a bit. My mom showed up around 10:15 and we went to Keira's school in time for her special birthday snack. She had picked out frosted sugar cookies and orange passionfruit juice. The kids all sang happy birthday to her and Mia got to sit and hang out with the big kids, who all dote on her. They had a great time. Keira also got to do show-n-tell and brought the "snow globe" her cousin Kambrie had made for her.
After school, we went back to the house and picked up Trav and went to have lunch at Red Robin. Of course, Keira was so excited to get her sundae and be sang to. After lunch, we went home so Travis could go to school and we got Mia down for a nap. I got on Facebook and showed Keira all of the comments people had left her for her birthday. She was grinning from ear to ear. After I got Mia down for a nap, Keira and I left for a special mommy/daughter date. We went to a nail salon in Mall 205 and got manicures. The people thought she was pretty cute and did polk-a-dots on her nails. After that, we went to Target. My mom had given her a little bit of $ so I told her she could pick something out. She picked out a portable Barbie house. We got a popcorn and headed home. I could see the circles under her eyes and knew my little girl was tired. It was around 4pm and she laid down to take a rest. Mia was still sleeping so I laid down, too. Oh, and my mom went home.
About 5:30 Nanna came over to take us to dinner. The girls got up around 6:30 and we left for their other favorite restaurant - Izzy's. While we were there, cousin Lex called and wished her happy birthday. Oh, Aunt Meghan had called earlier, too and when we got home Aunt Kendall called, as well.
Around 7:30 Josh and Meredith showed up with a cupcake that looked like an ice cream cone that they had made for her. They sang her happy birthday and she blew out the candle.
After everyone left, Trav, the girls and I watched part of a kids movie to have a little quiet family time together. The girls got to bed around 9:30 and Keira had definitely had a full birthday. I feel very blessed to have so many special people in our lives to love on my girls. She definitely had a great day and is so excited for her birthday party on Saturday.
